You can create a book using any Pages template, or you can use templates specifically designed for creating books. Portrait book templates are based on word-processing documents, and can be exported as reflowable or fixed layout EPUBs. If in your book the images are strictly related to the text (for example: the text overlaps the images or the image acts as a background to the entire page of text), then it is necessary to resort to the ePub3 fixed layout. You can do the same here: =wishformI queried and got answers from Apple a few months back about what EPUB-FL means for the iBookstore.1. At present, Apple can't treat reflowable and fixed layout versions of a book as the same book. At best, you can give them the same title but different ISBNs and make them part of the same series. Books in a series will appear on a book's web page so, hopefully, potential buyers will see the two versions.2. Each version must be a separate upload from an author/publisher, with regions and prices set separately. Be sure to make each upload part of the same series. Setting a series later means going through Apple staff.3. Buying one version does not give readers access to the other. They need to buy both to get the benefits of both. That matters because most EUB-FL books will display but be unreadable on a tiny iPhone screen. I've changed the files as described in two different epubs and it worked beautifully, until I noticed that about half the images on the pages went missing. They show up as empty boxes or boxes with question marks. Any idea how i can fix this? (the original fixed layout epubs showed all the images correctly).

When you create the fixed-layout ePUB from InDesign then the page content will be exactly as you see it in InDesign. With audio you will need to make the audio object fill the frame that you have stretched across the page
If we use the current method that InDesign provides for exporting the the ePUB(fixed-layout) form, then each word in the HTML is marked-up with a span tag. Now, actually, this is exactly what we need for read-aloud, but then we are committed to highlight every word and also analyse our audio to pick out every word. We will find it very difficult to change the HTML markup to tag each line instead.
It is possible to add audio that plays automatically when a page is opened. The audio will play as long as one XHTML file is open. In other words, you can have a different ambient sound for each chapter. In our example Shakespeare play we can add some ambient audio to the start of the Scene. If you plan to create a reflowable eBook then this sound will play for the whole of this scene by placing the audio once. With a fixed-layout eBook the audio will need to be on each page.
Under the Window>Interactivity menu you will find the EPUB Interactivity Window. With this, you can test your fixed pages (or indeed the whole book) before exporting to the fixed layout ePUB. Not all features can be previewed but certainly the animation, multimedia and interactivity will show as expected.
The advantage of EPUB and MOBI is that both formats display reflowable content (the text adjusts to fit the size of the screen on your reading device) as well as fixed-width layout. Both formats are also open standard, which means that they are free and publicly available, although rules exist regarding their usage.
The exception to the reflowable rule is PDFs. Today, most people consider books distributed in the PDF format to be "real" ebooks. PDFs are fixed-layout, meaning you might encounter formatting issues when viewing a PDF on a dedicated ereader.
